Millions of Jobs from Natural Gas — And More Possible!

The following information on combined employment and value added data was complied and calculated using information from 2008 natural gas production numbers from the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s “Monthly Energy Review” released in March 2009; and a report by PriceWaterHouseCoopers.  The employment estimates include those directly employed in the natural gas industry and in secondary jobs — such as steel, concrete, banking, manufacturing and more — created by natural gas exploration, production, delivery and use.

Combined, the Natural Gas Supply Association estimated that approximately 4 million Americans are estimated to be employed as the result of natural gas development, adding $385.5 billion to the American economy in 2008.  To see another estimate, conducted by IHS Global Insight on behalf America’s Natural Gas Alliance that placed the estimate closer to 3 million Americans, click: here
